INTRODUCING THE BORNEO BORN SINGER-SONGWRITER

Tommy Simmonds

Tommy started singing and painting from a very early age. In his teens, he left Borneo for Kuala Lumpur. He lived there for six years whilst studying art at college and made a living as a designer and was also busy singing with a function band.

He decided to give up his career and and spent time travelling around Europe, Asia, Caribbean, Middle East, and the United Kingdom where he decided to remain and launch a new career in London.

Tommy studied at the Vocaltech Vocal School, London College of Music and also at the Academy of Contemporary Music, which gave him a wealth of musical knowledge. His music is strongly influenced by: Lionel Richie, Sade, and Rufus Wainwright. He also enjoys a wide variety of other musical forms including Jazz, Soul, Gospel, Latin, Folk, Dance, and Pop.

Regardless of the competition from other artists and professional musicians, Tommy views his Oriental background as a key element to the success of his music. He speaks and sings fluently in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Bahasa Malaysia/Indonesia. Tommy has proved himself to be entertaining, versatile, charismatic and above all talented. When you hear him sing you become strongly aware of his genuine love of music. When you hear him perform his own songs, you cannot help but notice the truly genuine person that this great singer is.

"I've been musical for as long as I can remember, I sang in public and was involved in church choirs from an early age. Music has always been the biggest passion of my life. I consider my voice and ears as a gift from God and I feel blessed that I am able to create. I sing and write because this is a way of expressing myself and it is a central part of who I am. Every journey brings new challenges and every new day is always different, nobody knows what the future holds.
